Historical Streetscape of the Koya Kaido
Four historical roads leading from Kyoto and Osaka come together in the vicinity of Kawachi-Nagano Station before continuing to the holy site of Koya-san, forming a pilgrimage route known as the Koya Kaido. Visitors to the area can enjoy the traditional-looking streetscape and the designated Important Cultural Properties of Nagano Shrine and Eboshigatahachiman Shrine and see the Old Mikkaichi Koban, the oldest wooden police box in Osaka Prefecture. As parts of the streetscape remain unspoiled by the passage of time, you can truly feel as though you are following in the footsteps of the pilgrims of old.

Kiichi(option)
Kiichi is a restaurant where you are able to enjoy a variety of seasonal produce and ingredients locally sourced from the Kawachinagano area. Upon entering the restaurant, the lively conversations of regular patrons fills your ears, creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, making any first-timer feel right at home. Finding the perfect harmonies of flavors and ingredients, Kiichi is a delight to all five senses. Furthermore, Kiichi is able to offer a menu which accommodates the needs of each guest to ensure the splendor of Kiichi’s hospitality can be enjoyed by all.

Kanshin-ji Temple
Kanshin-ji Temple was established in 701 by En no Ozuno. In 808, Kobo Daishi, the founder of Shingon Buddhism, sought to bring the power of the Big Dipper into the grounds of Kanshin-ji Temple. The recommended method of worship at Kanshin-ji is “movement followed by silence.” Visitors should first visit the Star Mounds, stones tucked away in the forest which together take the shape of the Big Dipper, thereby cleansing themselves of bad luck. Then, worshippers quietly and calmly pray at the Kondo, or main hall. Why don’t you try visiting the serene Star Mounds and experience the power that Kobo Daishi felt for yourself? This temple can be enjoyed in all seasons, with plum blossoms and plum filled cakes in spring and the bright colors of maple leaves in autumn.

Amanosan Kongou-ji
Built during Japan’s Tempyo era (729_749), Amanosan Kongou-ji Temple boasts four national treasures, along with many designated important cultural properties including the Romon Gate, Kondo Main Hall, and the architectural wonder of the temple’s two-storied pagoda. A far cry from the swarms of tourists as seen in Kyoto and Nara, the Kongou-ji Temple is a peaceful natural paradise where one can relax and unwind. The temple’s inner garden boasts an abundance of flora and greenery where one can forget the troubles of everyday life by looking out upon the green moss lawn.

Sudare Museum
Facing the Kongou-ji Temple, the Sudare Museum is an establishment which introduces guests into the world of the Sudare bamboo blinds, exhibiting an array of materials regarding the long history, culture and manufacturing process of one of Japan’s traditional crafts passed down generation to generation since 794 A.D. Opened in 2004, Japanese sudare as featured in Matsumoto-jo Castle, Nagano Prefecture, are displayed within this exhibition along with other traditional wooden blinds originating from China and Korea. The Sudare Weaving Experience is a definite must-try for those wanting to learn more about this traditional craft!
