Hakkōda Mountains – Volcanic Landscape
The Hakkoda Ropeway operates throughout the year. It takes passengers to the summit where they can alight at Summit Park Station. From the top, there are incredible views of the mountainous scenery beloved by the people of Aomori.
The Hakkoda Mountains are made up of sixteen peaks. The landscape transforms as the snow falls and sticks for a couple of months each year.
This is the northernmost group of volcanic peaks on the island of Honshu.
Oirase Gorge –Untouched Nature
A mountain stream surrounded by woods – this area feels like no human has ever been here before!
The gorge extends for about 14km or 9 miles and is full of beautiful spots where waterfalls, running water, rocky surfaces, and trees come together spectacularly.
Crater Lake Towada-ko
The remarkable landscape of Aomori includes a double caldera. Yes, a caldera within a caldera! Through explosive volcanic activity millennia ago, there is now a large lake 400 meters (or 1,300 feet) above sea level here.
Two peninsulas jut out into this beautiful, deep lake.
The Lake Towada Sightseeing Boat is by far the best way to appreciate its beauty.
